Signs Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition caused by pressure applied to the median nerve. The carpal tunnel is a small path located on the palm side of your hand. When there’s compression to the median nerve, this can create certain mobility issues and even pain.

How Do You Know If You Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel symptoms usually start slow and get worse over time. Some common symptoms can include:

  • Numbness - it will usually be localized in the fingers or hand, with the expectation of the little finger, which is not affected. In some cases, the numbing feeling can even travel down to your wrist and arm. It’s likely the feeling won’t be constant at first, and you may notice it getting worse during certain activities, like holding the phone or the steering wheel. This numbing sensation is often accompanied by tingling;
  • Weakness - carpal tunnel syndrome can also cause the affected hand to become weaker, to the point where you might even be dropping objects because you cannot properly grip and hold them.

However, having any of these symptoms doesn’t automatically mean you have carpal tunnel syndrome, as there are many other conditions that can also cause these signs. To be sure, you should see a doctor for a consultation to get an official diagnosis.

Also, it’s very important to seek help as soon as you notice the potential signs of carpal tunnel. Leaving it

Can a Chiropractor Help?

A chiropractor can both diagnose and treat carpal tunnel symptoms. Chiropractic treatments work by addressing the underlying cause of the condition.

The chiropractor will first try to pinpoint exactly why you’re experiencing these symptoms. If it’s because of pressure on the carpal tunnel, then the chiropractor will likely begin wrist or elbow manipulation to alleviate pain and treat the condition.

Are Chiropractic Services Effective for Carpal Tunnel?

Going to the chiropractor can be an effective and non-invasive way to manage or reduce the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, even long-term. These therapies can reduce inflammation, improve circulation in your extremities, and can directly address any pains you might be experiencing.

However, you should know there are various degrees of severity when it comes to carpal tunnel syndrome. In more serious cases of the condition, wrist or elbow manipulation might not be enough to effectively manage it, and the patient can need more medical attention for it, including surgery.
