How I performed Voodoo to keep my wife happy
The other day my wife called me as I landed at the airport and prepared to head back to the office to take care of patients. She felt a headache coming on and was in a meeting at a location close to our office but didn’t have time to come into the office before picking the kids up from their last day of school. “I’ve been waiting for you to get back in town, please come by here and adjust me!” she called and said. It was a few minutes out of my way, but, I knew that a quick adjustment could keep her headache at bay and if I waited until I arrived home later that night it might have already set in and ruined her day. Of course I want the best for my family, and…I’m a smart man; so I went over to adjust her.
When I arrived I found that we created something of a spectacle as others at the meeting had asked if they could watch her get adjusted. I walked in, adjusted her in about thirty seconds and she hopped off the couch ready to go.
“That’s CREEPY!” the onlookers said. “You mean you just feel a headache coming on, you get adjusted, and then that’s it?? It just goes away?!”
“Yeah, that’s it.” She answered. Pretty simple.
This interaction made me realize something profound. We have so little faith in our body’s ability to heal itself, that it almost seems like voodoo when people see it happen. We aren’t in awe when a cut heals on our skin, so why is it so foreign to us when our body acts accordingly when we remove other barriers to healing? An adjustment removes nerve interference, relaxes ligaments and muscles, reduces inflammation, improves circulation to the area, and causes a host of other benefits from released chemical messengers that help our body heal itself.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t call that creepy. The opioid epidemic and what it is doing to our society is creepy. Putting all of your faith in pills is creepy. Voodoo is creepy. The body healing itself? Not creepy. It’s natural and normal and amazing all at the same time. At Vidan Family Chiropractic, it’s what we help people with.
